My name is Julie and I am a professional Support Worker and I have been working in the Care and Support industry for several years. I consider myself to be a truly dedicated peoples person offering the best support to fit the requirements for each individual person and according to their needs. I am up to date with all my Care and Support qualifications and have gained considerable knowledge and experience with working for people from all walks of life, which includes the elderly, people with low level learning disabilities, drug abuse, mental health conditions and people with the onset of dementia.
I am very enthusiastic, compassionate, calm and have a positive you can do approach without being pushy.
I love to organise paperwork, offer help and advise with budgeting, completing forms, I will read, explain and respond to letters and help to make appointments; it is a matter of helping those to get back on track, stay on track and have a bit of fun on the way.
It is always a pleasure and rewarding to support people to meet their everyday needs, either with cleaning, laundry, shopping, meal preparation, light gardening duties and if required encouraging people to declutter their home to make a safe and happy environment.
In the past I have managed and set up several Active Living Centres for the elderly and those with dementia; I recognise the importance to encourage and stimulate mental and physical activities and promote healthy living lifestyles, this I feel can be achieved through the one to one companionship, sitting services or social days out that I can also offer.
I have worked in Care and Support for over fifteen years, initially gaining qualifications and experience whilst employed for a Care Agency.
The past ten years I was employed as a Professional Support Worker for a local Housing Association. I gained further training, qualifications and valuable expereince working with vulnerable adults. My role was to visit customers in their homes, record and report achievements and outcomes in their personal Support Plans. During this employment I also set up and managed nine Active Living Centres in Somerset and I was responsible for the promotion and advertising for each centre. I worked in accordance with the funding and managed the budgeting. I liaised with providers, creating a monthly programme to include, Healthy Living Lifestyle, home safety talks, alternative dietary options for diabetics, arts and crafts creativity, reminiscence, fun physical exercises and organising social days out for large groups. Each member had their own unique support plan to record their outcomes and changes to any concerns regarding to their health and well being.
Outside of work
I walk my dog Alfie everyday and enjoy walking through the countryside and going to new places.
I grow my own vegetables and enjoy keeping my garden as tidy and pretty as can be!
I'm no Master Chef but I do enjoy entertaining and like to give myself a challenge when it comes to cooking for family and friends.
I love visiting historical buildings in Villages and Towns.
I am always on the lookout for a good bargain and very interested in antiques.
My husband is a photographer and I enjoy helping him and offering creative ideas.
At the end of my day, I like to sit down, play a game or two of scrabble (on my ipad), attempt a crossword or watch TV.
